A brief background of CREDA
Centre for Rural Education and Development Action (CREDA) is a non-profit, non-political and non-religious voluntary organisation registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860, with its registered office at Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, India. It is also registered under Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) and eligible to receive foreign funds. CREDA is also registered under Section 12AA and 80G of Income Tax Act.
It was formed in 1982 by a group of social activists led by Shamshad Khan for protection of children, providing them quality education, eradication of child labour and bonded child labour and ensure community participation for socio-economic development.
Since its inception, CREDA has focused on child labour and out of school children in the districts around Mirzapur. We have been in the forefront to educate large number first generation learners from disadvantaged and vulnerable communities.
CREDA, upto December 2016, has mainstreamed nearly 75,000 children into formal education and safeguard these children from getting into child labour. The women and adolescent girls have also been in the focus of our projects.
Today, CREDA plays a crucial intermediating role in local, national and global interaction on children and woman’s rights issues.
